Recently members of the Public Affairs Council met with the Douglas/Elbert County task force to talk about different ways our stake can help the poor and needy in Highlands Ranch. The Douglas/Elbert County task force provides housing vouchers, food, clothing, and various resources to help people get back on their feet for those who are struggling in our community.
They have a ton of great service opportunities that we wanted to share. Please feel free to e-mail HighlandsRanchMormons@gmail.com with any questions!
-The week of June 11-15 they can use youth (12 and up) to help sort food they collect from their 9News Food Drive from 9-1 each day. Please call them at 303-668-1114 and ask for Marion to schedule.
-They could use dog or cat food that is divided into gallon ziploc bags (this would be great for Activity Days or Cub Scouts to do!)
-They need Birthday bags- this is a gift bag that contains one cake mix (chocolate or Funfetti flavor), Birthday candles, and frosting. They only need about 10-15 of these a month, but this would be another great Activity Days service project. The kids can write generic Happy Birthday cards to put in the bags.
-They always have Eagle Scout project ideas
-They have a “scavenger hunt” they put together for different church youth groups to go knock on doors collecting different items.
-They are always in need of toiletries, so toiletry drives are always welcome
-They are always looking for more committed volunteers- those who can commit to serving 6-10 hours a month
The Task Force is located in Castle Rock, at 1638 Park Street. Any collected items should be delivered here.
