We had a wonderful turn out from our stake members as we partnered with St. Luke’s for their annual Feeding the 5,000 campaign to raise money and food for the poor and needy in our area.
Many miracles occurred over the course of this weekend. God has a miraculous ability to magnify our meager efforts, and that was seen time and time again.
As our stake sought to support St. Luke’s in this drive, we reached out to LDS Humanitarian Services and the Bishop’s Storehouse. Within a span of 24 hours, we were able to get approved for 65 cases of food- including cases of much needed baby formula, diapers, peanut butter, and other goods.
One of our stake members went to pick up the food to deliver it to FERN (Food Exchange Resource Network, the recipient of the goods), and here is what his truck looked like with all the goods:
You can probably guess what happened- the load toppled over on the I-70 on ramp! But, he then had the privilege of witnessing a miracle. In his own words:
“After losing the load on the I-70 on ramp, we witnessed a miracle as people gathered to help my wife and I get the food back to our truck and another person volunteered to take part of the load in her truck (it wouldn’t all fit in our truck) and followed us 20 miles to the food bank.”
Wow! Truly, angels were watching and blessing his efforts!
Here is the happy, and eventually, successful delivery:
And that was just the beginning!
On Friday and Saturday, we worked with members from St. Luke’s, St. Mark’s, and other members from the community to collect over 50,000 pounds of food, and over $12,000 to go to FERN! We helped man about 10 grocery stores throughout the area, and then helped sort the food to be loaded onto the trucks to be delivered to FERN. Missionaries in our area got involved as well, participating in this JustServe project.
Truly, the work done this week helps us to better serve Christ. For, in Matthew 25:35-45 we read:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungered, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
